Our programs are guided by the expressed needs and goals of our clients.

Through the following services, we walk alongside our newest neighbors as they access life-building tools and resources.

Our programming strives to utilize our assets to benefit the community at large. For us, “community” includes both resettled communities and the broader community of volunteers and partners.

All of our programs are powered by volunteers.

CLIENT ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM

Our Client Engagement program seeks to fill gaps in services that newcomers may face while navigating life here in Richmond. Whether we are meeting in a client’s home to introduce them to a volunteer tutor, accompanying a new driver to the DMV, or learning together in a group class facilitated by one of our community partners, our values guide every interaction.

The Client Engagement team connects our clients to tools and services in two complementary ways: through Newcomer Navigation and through Newcomer Education.

Newcomer Navigation provides direct 1:1 support to clients as they work toward meeting their immediate needs. The Newcomer Navigation team connects with each client to identify their goals, share resources, and create a plan of action. Services can include:

  • English Language Support

  • Transportation Independence

  • Employment + Education Navigation

  • Health + Wellness

  • Financial Literacy Education

  • Citizenship Test Preparation

Newcomer Education centers around in-person, group services that offer skill-development, education, and community building opportunities. Programming is designed around expressed needs and is facilitated through intentional collaboration with community partners. The Newcomer Education team works to remove barriers to access often faced by clients, such as lack of transportation, language access, or childcare. Programming falls into one of four categories:

OUTREACH PROGRAM

Building meaningful relationships is integral to a sense of belonging, and getting to know someone who seems different is an opportunity to discover ways that we are, in fact, much the same. Our Outreach team supports the broader Richmond community by sharing about the resettlement experience, training and supporting volunteers to work directly with newcomers, and holding larger events to build up the networks of newcomer communities.

Our Outreach program is focused on three areas:

  • Community Education educates long-term Richmonders about the experiences of newcomers, what they bring to the community, their needs, and who is already doing the work. Members of the broader Richmond community may request a speaker to share about the refugee and immigrant landscape and learn ways to get involved.

  • Volunteer Engagement successfully engages and equips over 200 volunteers each year. Volunteers may be connected to our programs and services through a 1:1 client match or in a support role during one of our group programs. We could not do this work without our amazing volunteers!

  • Newcomer Networking intentionally seeks connections and cultivates close partnerships with leaders of local refugee and immigrant organizations.
