ReEstablish Richmond board members are the governing body of the organization. They help make sure ReEstablish Richmond continues to operate in alignment with the agency’s mission. Board members are essential to ensuring that the organization has proper funding to continue providing services.
Board of Directors
ReEstablish Richmond’s Board of Directors plays a critical role in guiding the organization’s mission, ensuring financial sustainability, and supporting ethical and effective governance. Board members commit to a 3-year term (renewable once) and participate in regular meetings—primarily virtual with at least two in-person annually. Members are expected to serve on a subcommittee, attend at least one fundraising or outreach event, and make a meaningful financial contribution. They also help expand the organization’s reach by connecting their networks, initiating speaking opportunities, and sharing expertise. Serving on the board is a rewarding way to support refugee and immigrant communities while growing leadership skills and professional experience.
Role of the Board Top Ten Basic Responsibilities of Nonprofit Boards 1. Determine the mission and purpose, articulating the organization's goals, means, primary constituents serve, and actively advocate for the mission and goals.
2. Select Chief Executive, clarifying responsibilities and taking time to find the most qualified individual position.
3. Support and evaluate the chief executive, ensuring they have the moral and professional support needed to further the goals of the organization.
4. Ensure effective planning, actively participating in overall planning process and implementing and monitoring the plans goals.
5. Monitor and strengthen programs and services, determine which programs are consistent with the organization's mission and monitor their effectiveness.
6. Ensure adequate financial resources securing the funding needed for the organization to fulfill its mission
7. Protect assets and provide proper financial oversight, developing the annual budget and ensuring that proper financial controls are in place.
8. Build and sustain competent board, articulating prerequisites for candidate, orienting new members and periodically and comprehensively evaluating their own performance
9. Ensure legal and ethical integrity, adhering to legal standards and ethical norms
10. Enhance the organization's public standing, articulating and advocating for the organization's mission, impact, and goals, and garnering support from the community
