DRIVER’S EDUCATION FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS UNDER 18

Teenagers are eligible to take the learner’s permit test at DMV when they are 15 years and 6 months old. High school students who are under 18 must also take driver's education through their high school. Once a student earns their learner's permit from DMV, they are eligible to register with their school counselor for driver's education class. After completing this semester class, they can register with their school counselor to take behind the wheel driving lessons the following semester. The cost for these lessons during the school year is currently $100.

SUMMER SCHOOL: DRIVER’S EDucation / DRIVING LESSONS

Each year in Henrico County, summer school is offered at two different high schools. Driver’s education is offered at both schools. Since driver’s education is a semester course, students who take driver’s education in the summer must take behind the wheel the following semester. Students who want to take driver’s education or behind the wheel in summer school must register with their school counselor in the spring before the deadline for summer school registration. The cost for these lessons during summer school is currently $150.
